Wow, I had no idea. I wish tag sales and thrift stores were more vintage where I live. It seems there is an absence of compacts and other older things. But when I start going to them in the Spring more I'll keep my eye out for the designs if I'm lucky enough to find them! They can be really hit and miss can't they?! There's either lots or none at all. There's always ebay but the prices on there for compacts unless you manage to find one of the few and far between low priced items have gone up a lot over the years!

Without doubt Stratton were the most successful brand of British powder compact. The quality of their enamel was clearly superior to the other British brands at the time. Vintage Stratton accessories are highly collectible today and many have proved to be a good investment. Coupled with known years of availability it is possible to build a big picture of exactly how rare an item is. Often the rare models of Stratton compacts were made in the s, just as production was switching over to models suitable for both types of face powder pressed and loose.
Stratton started out in as a knitting needle manufacturer. They marketed their first powder compact in The rebrand was a great success and by the mid s, Stratton produced over half of all compacts used as a part British cosmetics at that time. Four of the five Stratton factories were destroyed.
