On June 19, girls from several middle schools in Montgomery County, Roanoke City, Floyd County, and other school districts learned about various career paths available through the Division of Operations at Virginia Tech. Students engaged in hands-on activities, tours, and demonstrations related to jobs in these fields, and spoke to women in these fields about their careers. The goals of the event are to encourage girls to develop a strong basis in the STEM fields and to promote interest in these behind-the-scenes career fields. By engaging young women in Southwest Virginia, the division hopes to express the importance and value of female participation in all fields of work.

Schools that score high in diversity metrics are those with the greatest variety in ethnicity, gender, age, and geographic location of origin.
